U19 Midlands League Final Div 2: Blessington C.C. 1 v 3 St. Farnan's P.P.S., ProU19 Midlands League Final Div 2: Blessington C.C. 1 v 3 St. Farnan's P.P.S., Prosperous
St. Farnan's staged a typical late come-back to snatch a dramatic victory over Blessington on the all-weather pitch in Kilcullen to give them their fourth title in seven years under Manager, Owen Dockery. Trailing 1-0 with time running out and reduced to 10 men, the Prosperous boys seemed destined for runners' up medals . However, the Prosperous lads showed real courage and fighting spirit to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a pulsating encounter.
St. Farnan's enjoyed the majority of possession for most of the game but fell behind when a defensive lapse gifted Blessington the lead after 65 mins. Great credit is due to the Prosperous school who kept attacking in search of an equaliser. St. Farnan's introduced Adam Lee and Dylan Hannon in a final throw of the dice. Big Adam Lee made an immediate impact by rifling home a stunning goal from the edge of the box with seven minutes to go. This goal gave St. Farnan's renewed hope and they went all out in search of a winner which duly arrived when man of the match Yomi Okinahoe headed home powerfully from a corner kick. Blessington were shell-shocked by this dranatic turn of events and conceded a penalty when the skilful Dylan Hannon was tripped inside the box. The same player dusted himself down to smash home the penalty, sparking wild celebrations.
Great credit is due to Blessington and their Manager, Michael Burns, who contributed fulsomely to a hugely entertaining cup final.
Many thanks to Joe Carroll (Piper's Hill) who organised the competition and to referee Chris O'Grady. St. Farnan's go through to the Leinster QF where they will face the winners of Balbriggan C.C v Beaufort College, Navan.
