Celebration of six years of partnership with SAP Ireland
The Skills@Work programme gives 5th year students a first-hand insight into the world of work by providing information on seeking, finding and retaining employment. The programme is co-ordinated by Business in the Community Ireland as part of the Schools Business Partnership and we are extremely fortunate to be partnered with the German international, SAP Ireland.
The partnership between SAP and our school is now firmly established and participation in the project is highly sought after amongst our traditional 5th year and 5th year LCA cohorts of students. The structured programme is made up of six modules scheduled throughout the academic year and involve a site visit to SAP offices, CV writing skills, mock interviews, Day in the Life insights and an optional extra team building HR recruitment session. At the conclusion, the class present their learnings to parents and school staff at the Wrap Session and this was celebrated in school on Friday, February 28th.
The 31 students who completed the programme this year were joined by the Principal, Mr. Collins, a large number of family members, Ms. Jo Sayers, the Regional Coordinator of Business in the Community, the CEO of SAP Ireland, Mr. Liam Ryan, the company coordinator, Ms. Victoria Carroll and a number of the volunteers from SAP Ireland who were involved in delivering various modules of the programme.
They showcased their participation and learning outcomes from the Skills@Work programme and were all highly praised by all the guests for their confidence, positive attitude and for their many, many skills and qualities which were very evident in all modules of the programme.
The students' presentation also referenced SAP Ireland's support of STEM in our school, which to date has resulted in donations totaling €12,500 from their Community Grant Foundation. These funds have been used to buy a class set of ipads, a charging trolley and two laptops with specialised software for the new DCG Leaving Certificate specification. SAP Ireland has also committed to donating more laptops to the DCG department in the coming months to further assist in the delivery of the new specifications in this subject area.
In his speech Mr. Liam Ryan committed to maintaining the partnership with St. Farnan's into the future and complimented the students and staff involved for their outstanding commitment and high level of professionalism in every aspect of their involvement and organisation of the programme.
Special thanks to all the students involved who were so helpful in assisting with the preparation of the final event - those who ensured the room and buffet were ready, who welcomed our guests, who delivered the presentation and presented the gifts. Thank you to Rory, Sean and Paul who made the gift that we presented to SAP Ireland as a memento for this year's partnership and to Kym, who made the beautiful cake to mark the day.
