ETB schools are state, co-educational, multi-denominational schools underpinned by the core values of:

  • Excellence in Education
  • Care
  • Equality
  • Community
  • Respect

Excellence in Education: The ETB school ethos establishes that excellence in education is underpinned by the core values of care, respect, community and equality. Excellence in Education encompasses outcomes, experiences and expectations for all members of the school community.

Care: In an ETB school, care is about the welfare, wellbeing, and safety of all members of the school community. It is exemplified in meaningful relationships, connectedness, and empathy, alongside support and solidarity.

Equality: In an ETB school, equality is about treating all members of the school community equally, recognising, and celebrating the diversity of these members. It is exemplified in prioritising resources on the basis of need and promoting a culture of inclusion.

Community: In an ETB school, community encompasses students, staff, parents/guardians and the local community. It is about having a shared vision, values and purpose, a sense of belonging, and a voice that is listened to. It is exemplified in productive collaboration, positive contributions, and effective communication across all members of the school community.

Respect: In an ETB school, respect is about upholding the dignity, rights and recognition of the identity and background of each member of the school community. It is exemplified in relationships between all members of the school community, and decision-making that  impacts positively on the rights, feelings and aspirations of the diversity of people within the school community.

We asked our 1st year students what their experience has been like in St. Farnan's School.

Here's what they said;

What our 1st years say:

  • Since September school life is pretty good. I made lots of new friends even a best friend. The school is quite small comparing to the other one I was meant to go. All the teachers are really kind and always there for their students. Learning here in St. Farnan’s is really fun.
  • I’ve seen a lot of respect of equality and respect from the teacher and students. When I walk into class, I always get good morning and when I come into school they say hi or how are you. I always see people including others or giving a hand if they need help. When I’m walking around the school I’m seeing care kindness and respect from others. I see great help from the staff, the SNAs and from the whole school in general.
  • My time in St Farnan’s is very good because I came to the school nervous and excited but I got used to it after about 2 weeks and got to know all my teachers names and what subjects I have them for. The teachers and staff are nice. I like it because you get to play sports on teams and you have to make the team to play the matches and you don’t just get picked for the team straight away so that’s the best thing about it.
  • I got to know loads of new people. It’s very easy to adapt to this school. The deli is nice and it’s very cheap. The SNAs are really nice. The school football is also very fun and the basketball.
  • St Farnan’s is a great school with kind staff. They are very welcoming to all people. The school will always help you if you are stuck. The school has stuff at break like chess club and open mic. They also have lots of sports like Gaelic, soccer and basketball.
  • There are a lot of positives about the school, there are a lot of extra curricular activity like chess club and the school band. I felt really welcome into the school band as I play two instruments. I think I really fit in. They were all very welcoming. I also like the chess club it is great fun. I really enjoy playing people and if I don’t want to play I can just relax and watch someone else.
  • So far my school experience has been good I have made some really nice friends. We went on a trip to Dundrum for ice skating and shopping it was really fun.
  • During my time in St Farnan’s as a first year, the staff have all been very kind towards me. I have had an easy time learning in some of my subjects. And I have joined the school band which has been entertaining. If I am stuck on something the teachers are there to help me.
  • There is a wide variety of subjects that I could do and I am happy with the current practical subjects that I am doing.
  • St. Farnan’s is a great school. It’s supportive and kind. The staff is really nice and respectful to everyone. The school is helping you in any way they can. Great variety of interesting, fun subjects.
