St. Farnan’s Post-Primary School Welcomes New School Building Announcement

28th Jan 2026

St. Farnan’s Post Primary School, Prosperous is delighted to inform parents and the wider school community that the Department of Education and Youth, under the leadership of the Minister for Education, Ms. Hildegard Naughton, has officially released the list of schools approved for new school buildings in the coming years, under the new National Development Plan announced in the Dáil this morning.

We are proud to confirm that St. Farnan’s Post-Primary School has been included in this announcement for our c.10,000sq.mtr new build, alongside the Curragh Community College.

This is very welcome and long-anticipated news for our school community, and it allows us to proceed to the tendering and construction stage (Stage 3) in the coming months. These stages will now move forward as rapidly and urgently as possible, reflecting the significant need for improved facilities for our students and staff.

Our new school is a fully devolved project under the care of the Kildare and Wicklow ETB Schools' Capital Programme Team, MCOH Architects and Rodgers and Reddin as Project Managers. We have already spent many years working together getting Stages 1 and 2 completed and approved by the DEY and I would like to thank the senior leadership team in KWETB and Jackie, Seamus and Patricia from our new build team on behalf of our school community.

We wish to sincerely thank staff, students, parents and guardians for their continued patience, support, and trust throughout this process. This development represents a major milestone for St. Farnan’s and will greatly enhance the educational environment for current and future generations of students.

Further updates will be shared with parents as the project progresses.

On another note, our new temporary accommodation (2025) will be opening after midterm and consists of general classrooms, a new Science lab and new Construction room, office and toilets.

We would also like to welcome Mr PJ Gallagher as our new caretaker working alongside Jim.
