Update from Principal - March 19th 2020

19th Mar 2020

Letter to parents 3.

On Friday 20th March we will be entering week number two of school closure due to Covid 19 virus. As a country we are very much in unchartered territory and all we can do is heed all advice given by the HSE and the Department of Health.

In relation to St Farnan’s Post Primary School, I would like to highlight a number of issues.

Teaching and Learning.

Teaching and Learning is still happening albeit in different and innovative ways. Teachers are putting up regular work on our agreed platforms. Students are asked to check their school email account and to keep up with the study and revision. Teachers are correcting work by return. I have already asked that if students have difficulty accessing this work that parents might let us know by email to deputy@stfarnans.ie. It is very important that our students keep up with their studies. At this stage it is unknown how long this situation will continue for.  I am sure you are aware that the Minister for Education & Skills has cancelled Leaving Cert. and Junior Cert. orals and practical examinations. These include Irish, French and Spanish orals as well as practical performance tests in Music, and Home Economics.

School Tour:

There is up to date information on our website on the need to cancel our school your to Germany. I would like to thank Mr Little and Ms Breslin for organising same and for keeping us informed about all unfolding developments.

Competition for our 1st and 2nd year students.

We have decided to run a competition for our First Years and Second Year students. Students are invited to write an essay (must be typed) or design a poster (large) under the theme ‘Staying Positive during Covid 19’. There will be a prize of a Giant Easter Egg for the winning entry. I would like to thank the PTA for sponsoring the prize. The winning entry will also be published on our website.

Closing date for entries is Wednesday, April 1st. All entries to be emailed (a photograph of poster can be scanned) to competition@stfarnans.ie.

Finally.

Please continue to heed advice issued by the HSE and Department of Health in relation to ‘Flattening the Curve’ of the Covid 19 outbreak. Observe regular handwashing procedures and maintain Social Distancing.

Take care.

Eddie Collins, Principal.
