URGENT: Monday 23rd November Opening Schedule
Dear all,
Updates re: school opening tomorrow (Monday 24th Nov).
A text and VSware mail will also be sent to all parents/guardians and students and staff have been sent this information on their school email.
The new temporary boiler is in place and will hopefully be functioning with final fixings scheduled for tomorrow. Again, thanks to KMech for working solidly through the weekend to have this ready ahead of scheduled time (Wednesday) from Friday's meeting with DoEY, consultant engineer & KWETB team.
Unfortunately, the electrical issues are not yet fixed. ESB were in on Friday evening and discovered a fault with one of the three phase original fuses (probably from 1980s). A search is underway for this particular large fuse (Lindner 8406 160 Amp). Hopefully one can be found on Monday morning and replaced immediately. That is why we only have sporadic light and power in all rooms of the school.
Without the full 3 phase electricity working in school, the new boiler cannot start. So therefore, not every classroom has lights and power and therefore I can not yet open the school fully on health and safety grounds. What is scheduled for Monday morning and going ahead:
- 2nd and 5th year exams will run as scheduled in the Gym. Temperature in the gym is currently at 18.5C (6pm Sunday). The large heaters will again be turned on early but switched off 40 minutes before the exams begin at 9am.
- 5th year Special Centre for Room 19 and 1st year exams in classrooms (electric heaters and lights working):
- Class Higgins Room 13* (change to schedule)
- Class McAleese Room 12
- Class DeValera Room 18
- Class Hyde Room 16
- Class Robinson Prefab 1* (change to schedule)
- Room 25 - 1st, 2nd and 5th year students who have scheduled exams only
- LCA1 - trip to Forest (morning until lunchtime trip going ahead - wrap up warm.
- Room 26 students in school but in Room 29 classroom as Room 26 has no lights.
Unfortunately, all other rooms do not have heat, lights, power or 2 of 3 of these essentials, so 3rd year, Transition Year, 6th year and LCA2 must study at home for Monday please.
Hopefully, everything will be repaired and working as it should be by tomorrow evening. Please presume that school will be as normal on Tuesday. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.
Kind regards, Mr Purcell
